Green Day at Stark State

Middle school and high school students were invited to particpate in the events of Phi Theta Kappa Honors Green Day activities at Stark State College on Saturday.

Middle school students were asked to create and submit artwork with the theme “Wonders of the World,” made entirely with recyclable materials.

High school competition focused on environmental marketing campaigns with such topics as how and why to recycle electronic equipment, weather patterns and our environment, how graffiti hurts communities and the environment, and global warming.

Other activities planned include: cutting and collecting hair for Locks of Love, as well as collection of clean used clothing and shoes for the Salvation Army and personal hygiene products for Support Our Troops.

Green Day Down Under

In 2004 Green Day unleashed American Idiot on the world. A boundary smashing, genre confounding work of art, American Idiot changed the face of music, welcoming a new generation of music fans to the cult of Green Day.

In 2009 Green Day returned to stamp their authority on the music world releasing 21st Century Breakdown. Hailed as the jewel in an already impressive crown, 21st Century Breakdown has confirmed Green Day's status as one of the greatest rock bands in the world.

Now Green Day return to Australia and New Zealand as part of their 21st Century Breakdown World Tour – their first visit since 2005's explosive stadium and arena spectaculars.

If past tours are anything to go by, fans are sure to be thrilled – so don’t miss out.

Green Day's 'American Idiot' Musical Closing, But May Be Broadway-Bound Soon

Green Day's 2004 album American Idiot was not just a grand critical and commercial success for the veteran punk trio but also a total reinvention of their outlook as well as a kickstart to the second act of their career. Recently, it became yet another point of transition for the band. "American Idiot," the musical based on the songs from the original album, opened two months ago at the Berkely Repertory Theater, and now it appears as though the play will be making its way to Broadway. According to Playbill, the November 15 closing date in Berkeley won't be the end for it, as a casting notice made public yesterday indicates that it may be hitting the Great White Way in the near future.

However, at the moment there is neither a time frame established nor a theater booked. "There is a Broadway future for the show," spokesman Michael Hartman said. "But at this time no dates or theater are confirmed."

"American Idiot" tells the story of a character named Johnny (also called Jesus of Surburbia) who lives in the fictional Jungletown, U.S.A. and escapes to the city to hustle, take drugs and chase the woman of his dreams. It features all of the songs from American Idiot as well as a handful of tunes from 21st Century Breakdown and some rarer cuts (including the never-released "When It's Time").

The show, produced by the same team that brought "Spring Awakening" to Broadway (and won the Tony for Best Musical), is the most successful production in Berkely Repertory's history.

The line-up of performers for the star-studded night already includes Jennifer Lopez, Black Eyed Peas, Kelly Clarkson, Rihanna, Daughtry, Lady Gaga, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Jay-Z, and Adam Lambert.

"We're very excited about having Green Day, Rihanna, Shakira, Mary J. Blige and Keith Urban all performing on one stage," said AMAs producer Larry Klein. Eminem follows with five nominations, including Artist of the Year, while Michael Jackson also earns five nominations, based on the strength of sales for his "Number Ones" compilation this year.
